16th October ’04… 12.00 PM… Lazying around the notice board of our A-Block hostel… I saw the notice that changed my life… IEEE Committee selections were gonna take place the same day at 4.30 PM in the IEEE Student Branch Office… Coincidently that was the day, I received my IEEE Membership Card, thus making me eligible (Atleast in a legal way…!) to apply for a post… But I was apprehensive… I wasn’t sure if it was my cup of tea and if I would find it as comfortable as I find sitting with Image Processing books and Journals and thinking about my Image Compression Technique… I just thought I’ll give it a shot…!!! I reached the venue five minutes early and was the first one to be there… Our committee selection was a pretty rigorous one… Interview taken by the Branch Counselor was definitely not an easy one… But I played lucky and was declared as the Vice-Chairman of IEEE Student Branch, VIT…
16th October ’04… The IEEE Student Branch, VIT was born…!!!
And then there was no looking back… We came in gears…!!! We started organizing events like Audio Conferences, Guest Lectures, Interactive Seminars, Paper Contests… We even did sponsor some of the Technical Symposiums organized by other departments…
The next major issue was to have our own Website… My Brainchild and Kashyap’s Passion…!!! So I invited him to join our committee as the Web Administrator… A man of great capabilities and web designing skills… he managed the whole website in a mere one month, releasing it on 28th February ‘05, my dad's birthday…!!! To have the participation of more and more students and faculty, we started publishing Swasti, our monthly 9online newsletter which first hit the cyber world on 15th March ‘05…
In time we had committee elections again and our present committee was born… Me, Kashyap, Aditi, Abhinav, Akhil and Sakshi …I was appointed as the Chairman and Editor of the IEEE Student Branch, VIT. We were a committee in which each one of us shared the common dream of spreading knowledge about the latest technologies amongst our students through an innovative approach of combining entertainment with education, dream of carrying forward the objectives of IEEE and accomplishing the goals of RAB (Regional Activities Board). We have always looked forward to innovation and implementation of new ideas in improving the overall “utility” and “worthiness” of our Branch for the benefit of our Student Members.
And now when I look back in time… I wish time could just turn back its flight… for the last 18 months have been the best days of my life… It taught me life... I taught me that to succeed in life, I just have to believe in me and my abilities... It taught me to adapt to any situation, good or bad... It taught me to accept my failures and learn from them... It made me a man...!!!

It’s just two more months for me before I pass out from VIT, my home…and resign from IEEE Student Branch, VIT... I would really miss IEEE and my committee which has been as close to me as my family… The fun we had organizing the events… The moments we were tensed and felt everything was going the wrong way… The times we practices our speeches… The times we laughed… The times we had an argument… The moments we teased each other... It was so much fun...
What all I have today… I owe it all to IEEE Student Branch, VIT…!!! Three Cheers…!!!
